Flexible Seating on a Not-So-Flexible Budget

Flexible seating is undeniably a craze in the world of education. When it is done right, it creates a beautiful and functional space for students to complete their work in. This is something I really want to achieve for my class this coming school year.

Now, if I won the lottery I would outfit my room with the brightest matching set of flexible seating options. It would be a Pinterester's dream. But, I'm student-loans-broke, and I need this to happen with some good practical pieces that are cheap budget friendly.

I never underestimate local buy/sell pages on Facebook or Craigslist, but we are all on our own for those deals. I am going to focus on the things I have found in stores the last few days!

Dollar Tree: You'd be surprised how much my students loved these cushions last year, and I looked everywhere for the cheapest most budget friendly ones that I could. I ended up getting a few at Walmart, but I wish I had seen these! Kids love these for floor work or to make an existing chair more comfortable. These are thin, but should wipe down easy!

Target: I love me some Target, so as I was perusing the Dollar Spot (which, unlike Dollar Tree, doesn't mean it's all a dollar) I was so excited to see these lap desks ($7) and floor tables($5)! Usually when I see these they run for 10-15 dollars. But these felt pretty high quality, so I grabbed a couple of each.

Five Below: I feel like Five Below is the unofficial cheap (yes, cheap. I'm cheap.) Flex Seating Mecca. There were loads of things that could be used in a classroom of any style! They had yoga mats, balance boards, exercise balls, pillows, floor cushions, rugs, and inflatable ottomans and chairs. True to its name, everything is five dollars or below. Most of these items were at five dollars. I haven't used exercise balls in class before, but I have seen some successful teachers using them and the students love the wiggle that they allow. Five Below had three sizes and varied colors.

I've also already been balancing on my balance board, and might have to go grab another! I think this will be great for fidgety kids, either stand or under their desk while sitting!
